IMMIGRATION INFORMATION - Work Permits, Temporary & Permanent Residence
Once you’ve weighed up the lifestyle in New Zealand versus your current country of residence, you will want to find out if you qualify for gaining a Work Visa and/or Permanent Residence in New Zealand. You may wish to look directly on the Immigration New Zealand (INZ”) website and review each category and consider if you would be eligible. Alternatively, you may contact an Immigration Consultant or Lawyer and seek their professional advice.

Below are links to the INZ information on some of the main categories for Temporary and Permanent Residence. If you click on the link it will take you to the appropriate page on the INZ site with a full break down of requirements and how to apply under that category.
On the right hand side of the INZ screen, you will see a Tool Box with Forms & Guides sections, for each category. This will give you all of the additional information and forms required for each application i.e. Skill Shortages (occupations) required in New Zealand, Panel Doctors (where to get your medical examination completed overseas) etc.

Immigration Consultant/Lawyer
Based on previous experience, we recommend that you contact one of our listed “Immigration Consultants” to obtain an assessment of your eligibly for a Work Visa and Permanent Residence. These companies are professionals, and are all registered with the New Zealand Association of Migration and Investment (“NZAMI”). They will be able to assess your full situation and advise of the best possibilities and categories you may be able to apply under.
We would recommend contacting Immigration Law Advocates (“ILA”) as they are already Registered Immigration Agents, and they provide a FREE, no obligation assessment of your eligibility and will advise verbally and in writing of these possibilities. They also have a Spanish Speaking Immigration Consultant, and will clearly outline their set fee structures for each application type, so you know exactly where you stand.
Should you choose to go it alone and directly with INZ, or choose an Immigration Consultant or Lawyer, it is important to consider all of your options with regard to visa types and categories to apply under.
In the event that you choose to use an Immigration Consultant or Lawyer, please ensure that you use a company who are registered with the NZAMI
This will give you some protection to ensure that the advice you are receiving is trustworthy. You may also lodge complaints with the NZAMI should there be any problems along the way with your application. The NZAMI will investigate further.
As of 4 May 2008, Immigration Advisors will start to apply for registration under the new Immigration Advisors Act. You will also want to ensure that any Immigration Consultant or Agent that you undertake the services of are meeting these new government requirements (all Wanna Be A Kiwi Ltd. Immigration Consultants/Agents listed will be, so you don’t need to worry about them). The Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007 promotes and protects the interests of people receiving immigration advice. You can read more about the Immigration Advisers Act 2007 at www.iaa.govt.nz.
We wish you all the best with your immigration status and process!
